About me
Julia Pleasants ’08 graduated with a major in English and over forty credits in theatre and dance. Some of her most rewarding hours at W&L were spent at Lenfest - rehearsing, performing, taking classes, and working in the theatre shop. Julia was instrumental in keeping dance alive on campus prior to the existing academic program by serving as president of the student-run W&L Dance Club. She spent her years at W&L lobbying for the creation of a dance program with a performing company and she was successful in 2006 when W&L hired Professor Jenefer Davies to create the academic program in dance. Julia went on to receive her Master's degree in Cultural and Creative Industries from King's College London. Since graduating, Julia has worked for numerous arts organizations including the Cucalorus Film Foundation as the Dance-a-Lorus director and Outreach Coordinator, Dance Umbrella as the Walking Stories Project Coordinator, and Director of Programs and Services for the Children’s Museum of Wilmington. She also served in press and marketing for the internationally acclaimed, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and as a Program Manager for Arts Camps for the Durham Arts Council. More recently Julia worked for the renowned and historic, American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, as the Manager of Studio Programs and Community Engagement. She currently coordinates the graduate program in Romance Studies at Duke University and dances with Footnotes Tap Ensemble.
